Decoding Situationships
Modern days come with modern ways and relationships with new
terminologies are born every day! “Situationship”
is a new word that is quite popular today and is quite common among the
young and the old because it comes with “a no strings attached” benefit. A
situationship is a relationship that dangles between a traditional committed relationship
and a non-committed romantic friendship.
Situationships have garnered popularity today because people
are too fixated on their ambition, work or business, and other obligations of
life and do not have the time or inclination to commit. In contrast to casual dating, in situationships
there is a bit more of emotional entanglement and intimacy but minus the labels
or expectations of regular or traditional committed relations.
The rising popularity of situationships lies in the fact
that there is no or zero pressure to fulfill the commitments attached to traditional
relations. People can explore the options and enjoy companionships without the
obligations of a traditional relationship. However, this can also lead to heartbreaks
and emotional turmoil, if one of the persons involved may be serious and seeking
a commitment.
Therefore, communication is crucial for situationships to be
successful because the lack of it may lead to emotional turbulences and
distress in the people involved. It’s crucial that the parties are on the same
page and address the challenges and respect each other’s needs to enjoy the no-strings-attached
companionship successfully without being hurt.
